February wishlist

This is what I’m lusting after this month:

1.) Chanel Perles et Fantaisies Highlighter

The picture speaks for itself :in love:

2.) Chanel Coco Shine in ,,Boy”

It seems I’m into Chanel this month 😉

3.) Tatcha Camelia Cleansing Oil

Very luxurious brand inspired by Japan. As every true beauty junkie knows, cleansing oils have stayed the hype in the beauty world for the past few years…and with a reason! Nothing else melts waterproof makeup in a second! Since I tried the Cleansing Oil by Shu Uemura I’m a true convert. I’ll always be grateful to the lady in Covent Garden SU for generously providing me with samples!

Tatcha Camelia CO looks so sleek and luxurious…The best thing is I might find it in the post in a few days as Tatcha has contacted me for reviewing certain products on the blog – I’m so excited as it will be my first pro review! 🙂

4.) MAC Blot Powder Pressed

Some other MAC pressed powders have been a disappointment in the past but would like to try this one nevertheless. Have you tried it? If so, leave a comment and help a fellow beauty junkie :D.

5.) Aveda Blue Malva Color Conditioner

Supposedly neutralizes those nasty brassy tones in blonde hair – just what I need!

CND Shellac Nail Polish review

I’m one of those women who loves high-end cosmetics. I get satisfaction from nice, quality packaging, shiny tubes…that I almost always find lacking in high-street cosmetics. I’d rather have one decent lip gloss than 10 dupes…I believe I’ve adopted a similar attitude towards my men over the years as well. 🙂

I guess that’s why I gave much raved CND Shellac Nail Polish a go. It’s supposed to last for two weeks or more, basically it should stay put until one decides to take it off. Sounds too good to be true? Well, read on!

What the company says:

The original system that delivers 14+ days of flawless wear, superior color and mirror shine with zero dry-time and no nail damage.

Slide 1

My experience:

In a nutshell – if you like getting your nails professionally done, don’t crave the change every few days and don’t mind some degree of nail damage, this is for you.

  • it does last for 14+ days without chipping
  • really shiny and flawless
  • gets done in no time (30 minutes tops, along with prep and buffing)
  • not too expensive

But:

  • my normally very healthy nails are left quite damaged after just one application 😦

So, I decided it’s not for me after all… I meant to take some photos of my nails with bright new Shellac on, but forgot somehow! :/

What’s your experience with Shellac?

Moroccan Oil Extra Volume Shampoo review

4706_imageresizescduosinternalwebsite_extravolume_final

Yup, I’m back again. I figured since I’m already on my maternity leave (the little girl is due in 2 months) it would be a shame to waste all this free time I’ve got on my hands now…by not blogging about all this goodies that are piling up on my shelves ;).  The first one is Moroccan Oil Extra Volume Shampoo, a very gentle formula for irritated scalps.  It promises to keep your locks bouncy and voluminous, so what’s not to love?

What the company claims:

Extra Volume Shampoo and Conditioner contain antioxidant argan oil and nutrients to cleanse, detangle and bring back body to hair. They beautify hair with shine, manageability and movement, while making it easier to style. The formulas are free of sulfates, phosphates and parabens, so they’re safer for the environment and won’t dry, fade or strip hair of color.

My experience:

Albeit a bit pricey, this little gem is not a bad option for irritated, itchy scalps and dyed fine hair. Most hair products irritate my scalp tremendously and I figured getting rid of sulfates might help – and it did, instantly. So if your scalp is constantly itchy finding a sulfate-free shampoo might be the quickest solution!

So, the lowdown:

  • a VERY gentle formula
  • colour-safe
  • volumizes hair – at least for a couple of hours
  • a little goes a long way, so one bottle should last 6 months or longer
  • hair feels soft and silky, not dry at all!

On not such a positive note, it is pricey (24 $ for 8.5 fl.oz/250 ml) and the volume doesn’t last (but does it with any product really?).

Would I repurchase? Probably. 🙂

Overall: 4/5

Have you tried it? Drop me a line below so it doesn’t feel like I’m completely alone here after such a long time 😉

No/little fuss self tan:ST. TROPEZ

When it comes to self tanning, the pros rarely outweigh the cons – the smell of most self tanners is downright terrible and the orange hue is a dead giveaway. Add dirty, smelly sheets to the whole unnatural process and you get a rather unpleasant experience. At least that’s what it was for me before discovering St.Tropez line. No wonder celebrities use it! It’s a foolproof, relatively odourless self tan that even someone as clumsy as me could use without major bathroom drama. To be perfectly honest, I don’t care for colour much (no pun intended) but for those rare occasions when I don’t want to glow in the dark this is as good as it gets without actual sun.

What the company says:

Our original, Vitamin E-infused hydrating formula delivers the most intense natural colour in our Self Tan Classic range. Simply smooth on with an Applicator Mitt of Latex gloves to deliver a rich golden, streak-free tan that lasts up to 7 days.

How to apply

Exfoliate with St.Tropez Body Polish before moisturizing dry areas thoroughly with St.Tropez Body Moisturiser (elbows, knees, ankles and feet).  Help protect light eyebrows and hairline with a little extra moisturiser. Then, smooth on from toes to top, taking great care not to rub as this can make your tan uneven. Once you’ve got coverage, wait until touch dry before getting dressed. Try not to get wet, or sweat, for at least four hours. Finally, shower off to reveal a perfectly golden, natural looking tan. To maintain, re-apply a couple of times a week, nourish daily with St.Tropez Body Moisturiser and smooth with regular exfoliation for ultimate results.                                                                                                DSCF1576

What I say:

  • easy to apply – provided you have at least 4 hours free time on your hands
  • works just as described, unlike many products of the sort!
  • the most important thing for me – the smell is bearable. Once you shower, it’s almost non-existent.
  • the colour is subtle and pretty believable
  • the colour fades off evenly, no dirty looking patches
  • fair price

Would I repurchase? Absolutely.

Definitely 5/5 🙂

Have you tried it and if yes, did you like it?

Seche Vite dry fast top coat

Seche Vite. Perhaps the most popular top coat ever. If you are female and have nails you’ve probably heard of it. If you still haven’t here’s the lowdown:

seche

  •  A top coat? More of a car paint sealant. Seriously.
  • Should be applied on wet nail polish, dries within seconds
  • No fuss application
  • Gel-like finish on any nail varnish, even the rubbish ones
  • One bottle should last at least half a year with weekly applications
I can think of just two downsides – it stinks and also, getting a thinner (also from SECHE – Seche Restore) is an absolute must. However, Seche Restore can be used with any nail polish so the money is well-spent. Talking about the money – both the top coat and the thinner shouldn’t set you back much more than 20$.

Here’s what Seche says:

Seche Vite™ dry fast top coat is widely acknowledged as the world’s finest top coat. Specially formulated to penetrate through nail lacquer to the base coat forming a single solid coating over the nail plate for a much more durable finish. Guaranteed not to yellow while leaving nails silky, stronger and resistant to chipping and peeling.

Would I repurchase? YES!

OVERALL: 5/5

What’s your favourite top coat?

February wishlist

My current obsessions, in random order:

1.) Lancôme LA VIE EST BELLE

I’m in love. Sweet but not sickly sweet, strong but not overpowering. The smell lasts forever. Why on my wishlist instead on my bathroom shelf already? It’s darn expensive… :patience:

Covering redness – ARTDECO Camouflage Cream

First and foremost, my deepest apologies to anybody who has occasionally dropped by only to find nothing new on the blog – as I can see on my stats, there have been quite a few of you during this looooong time since the last post. What can I say, I had some major changes in my life last year…selling and buying a flat, moving and getting married – being some of them.

The reason I’m back today after such a long time is ArtDeco’s Camouflage Cream, it has completely changed my morning routine and I just had to share it! Ok, my friends know that I usually joke about my skin being my best organ. I guess I have genetics to thank for that. Of course, I still needed a dozen products and a small fortune to get me through the door in the morning for a long time. That is, until I found this little miracle! This is a true life saver for anybody with rosacea or redness-related skin conditions.

What ARTDECO says:

Waterproof cover cream for every skin type to cover red veins, pigmented moles, port-wine stains, tattoos, etc.

What snm/I say:

Very true. Also, if it covers tattoos it’s simply bound to cover just about anything. Seriously, if I had Mr. Christian Grey in my bedroom this would have covered all the signs of crying/boredom. It’s that good. Not convinced? Read on:

  • a little goes a long way, I usually repurchase every 6 months with everyday use
  • doubles up as a foundation AND concealer – just dab Camouflage Cream on the face where needed using preferred application tool (fingers, sponge, brush)
  • provides full coverage AND it’s waterproof
  • it’s very affordable (around 6 € / 4 £ / 7 $)
  • can be used all year round, stays put even in extreme conditions (50 shades not being one of those IMO)

artdeco

Have you tried this little miracle? Any opinions? Also, any thoughts on ”50 shades of Grey” are more than welcome!!!

LOVE, snm

NOTW

Why Nails of the Week? Because this manicure is still holding up without chipping for 4 days now!  Ok, so today I noticed a  crack on one nail… but still, 4 days for a nail polish is quite impressive. Even more so when we’re talking about a 2€ nail polish!

I apologize for the crappy pics – my photography skills still suck big time although I have a nice Fuji Finepix camera… any advice on handling it is more than welcome!

ESSENCE ABSOLUTELY BLUE & OPI NAVY SHATTER

ESSENCE ABSOLUTELY BLUE & OPI NAVY SHATTER

So, here is the Essence – OPI combo:

I really like the pastel blue of the Essence Absolutely Blue…As for the OPI Navy Shatter, I’m not so sure. I got it half priced which is a good thing as I definitely don’t find it useful enough. This is my first ,,cracking” polish and likely my last! I’ve tried painting it over different colours and the result is always the same – I feel as though my nails are terribly dirty! It just seems so…what is the word…shabby? Cheap? Both, I guess. In an attempt to make it look less so I’ve tried layering it over a pastel blue polish only on my thumbs and index fingers… Have I succeeded? Not really, but at least it looks like I did it to my nails on purpose 😉

ESSENCE COLOUR&GO ABSOLUTELY BLUE, OPI NAVY SHATTER, SALLY HANSEN DRY&GO

ESSENCE COLOUR & GO ABSOLUTELY BLUE:  Just as good – or perhaps a tad better – as any high end polish. Application without streaking, texture, durability…without the hefty price tag! Oh, and I almost forgot the great square brush it comes with! So good it deserves a blog post on its own 😉

Dior 5 Colour Eyeshadow Palette EXTASE PINKS: Review & Swatches

In Dior‘s words:  The legendary Dior palette, with its rich and long-lasting colours, offers an infinite range of possibilities. Our advice: Apply the lightest shade to the inside corner of the upper eyelid and a darker shade along the upper lash line. To finish, add a third colour to the corner of the middle lid and, for intensity and emphasis, apply another shade under the lower lash line.

What I say: I love this palettes. Ok, so they’re not the cheapest but the quality makes up for the price tag. Plus, it’s almost impossible to run out of it! This is Extase Pinks, 804, with five gorgeous shimmery eyeshadows:

The colour combo is quite interesting, don’t you think? My green eyes like purple – grey combination with a pop of pink in the inner corners…but be warned, this is not your every day palette! However, this would make for a great statement look for those special evenings 😉

On the plus side:

  • a vast number of colour combinations to choose from
  • highly pigmented
  • superb blendability
  • very chic packaging
  • comes with 2 eyeshadow applicators which are pretty durable
  • great staying power
  • a purchase that will last a long time

But… actually no buts this time. Apart from the price, of course. Although, IMO, 50 € isn’t that expensive for 5 eyeshadows of such a decent quality!

PRICE: Around 50 €.

Great dupe: Can’t think of any…Maybe, only maybe wet n wild if you are on a very tight budget.

Would I repurchase? Absolutely!

Sexnmakeup rating: 5/5

Have you tried this palette?
