Clinique Smart Custom Repair Eye Treatment

I sometimes wonder about my friends’ sex lives. Kind of a child’s curiosity I’d say… Similarly I feel rather curious about other people’s beauty routines, especially those that are not so visible – meaning skin care products over makeup. I’m guilty of opening bathroom cabinets and taking a quick peek while feeling a bit ashamed. Still, I do it since I was a child, just about anywhere I go. Hopefully not many of my friends read this as I might become quite lonely! 😀  A question for my readers, do you ever do it?

Recently I realised that I haven’t changed my skin care routine for almost a decade, since I was living in a cloudy yet rather charming Windermere in the Lake District, England. Come to think about it, neither have I changed my partner and I’m very happy with it ;). Still, I’m not getting any younger and while still mostly wrinkle-free, certain tiny lines are getting more prominent in the eye area. That’s where Clinique comes in the picture!

Official info:

Our Smart Eye Treatment targets your concerns as needed, where needed. Smart Eye Treatment improves skin’s appearance; smooths wrinkles, evens skin tone, lifts and brightens.

SNM Verdict:

+ I tend to agree with the official info this time, if you need a good eye cream, this is it!

+ skin looks plumper, fine lines less visible

+ very light and non greasy

+ sinks right in as a perfect base for makeup

– amazingly, can not find any downsides 😉

Would I repurchase: YES!

Where/How much? I got a 5 ml sample (Ebay) for a fraction of the price as I like to try the product before buying full-sized/priced version. 15ml is 40 euros on allbeauty.

Overall rating: 5/5

Clinique 3-Step Skin Care – yes or no?

Happy New Year!

I’ve been lazy again – I promised this post back in twenty twelve 😉 …which has been such a lousy year, by the way. Here is to a better one for all of us!!!

cocktail 1

Back to the post: As far as Clinique‘s 3-Step Skin Care goes, it’s been around for so long that every beauty junkie has certainly tried out at least one, if not all of the steps.  If you’re still not sure what to make of it, here are my thoughts that might help you decide if it’s right for you! (For reference, my skin is rather fair with warm undertones and, apart from mild rosacea, in quite a good condition).  So, without further ado:

STEP 1 : Cleanse : (LIQUID) FACIAL SOAP

Price: 11 – 15 £; more info here

clinique 3 cleanse

In Clinique’s words, it’s ”the first step to great skin, our hand-milled non-drying bar soap maintains protective lipids while loosening surface flakes. Leaves skin clean, comfortable, refreshed-never taut or dry. Preps skin for the exfoliating action of Clarifying Lotion. Comes with a convenient soap dish. ”

Available in 3 versions – Extra Mild, Mild and Oily, this soap makes for a gentle cleansing routine.  I tried the Mild and Liquid version a couple years ago and, frankly, never was I tempted to repurchase. There wasn’t enough…chemistry, I guess.

However, if you like to keep your cleansing routine basic,  gentle, simple, fragrance-free and effective, this might be worth a try!

STEP 2:  Exfoliate: CLARIFYING LOTION

Price:  £; available for 5 skin typesfor more info here

index

”Step 2 in Clinique’s 3-Step Skin Care System-and the difference-maker for great skin. Gentle exfoliating lotion developed by Clinique’s dermatologists de-flakes to reveal clearer skin. Smoothes the way for moisture.”

In my words (check the post out here): ”there are very mixed opinions on this one, people seem to either love it or hate it! I’ve been using number 2  for years now and would rather give up on chocolate than this little miracle! True, my skin probably is my best organ (no pun intended this time!), but this toner makes my skin flawless. I use it in the morning and evening, before moisturizing.  My skin used to get quite flaky, especially during winter, but since I’ve been using this that doesn’t happen at all.”  One of my top 5 beauty HGs.

p.s. Clarifying Lotion is currently on sale at Cheapsmells for only 9.99 pounds and they ship worldwide (this is NOT sponsored, I just bought mine!).

STEP 3: Moisturise: DRAMATICALLY DIFFERENT MOISTURISING LOTION/GEL

Price: 17-29.5 £; more info here

Clinique DDML (with pump)

Clinique DDML (with pump)

Clinique DDML (no pump- avoid this one!)

Clinique DDML (no pump- avoid this one!)

Clinique DDML (Gel - for oily skin)

Clinique DDML (Gel – for oily skin)

”The moisture “drink” all skins need, developed by Clinique’s guiding dermatologists to maintain optimal moisture balance. Works to soften, smooth, improve the condition and texture of your skin. Lotion formula is for drier skins; oil-free Gel is perfect for oilier skins.”

It’s meant to be used UNDER your regular moisturiser, which I find too time-consuming. DDML itself is nothing special really, a good moisturiser indeed but with no SPF nor anti-aging properties, just your basic moisturiser. Make sure you get it in the pump version, as the bottle without the pump is pretty useless. As you can see, I’m not overly excited about this one, although I have to admit I did repurchase twice – just to make sure!

So, I say a definite YES for step 2 and MEH for steps 1 &3!

Any thoughts on Clinique’s 3-Step? Tried it, liked it, hated it?

Essence Fix & Matte Loose Powder

Remember the post on Clinique Stay Matte Pressed Powder where I mentioned a better AND cheaper dupe? Well, this is it – as you asked what the dupe was. 😉

There is quite a big difference between the two, however, one being loose powder and the other pressed.  Of course loose powder can get everywhere in your purse, so I’d use it as a stay-at-home powder.  A very good one, I must say. It’s white/transparent (don’t worry, you won’t look white no matter the skin tone!), mattifying, helps makeup look fresh for hours and is available for less than a fiver. I got it on the go when my usual Clinique wasn’t available and never regretted the purchase.

I’d highly recommend this when on a budget.

Have you tried it? Anyone? 😉

Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder review

I’d been purchasing this for years until  I found  a (much better and cheaper) dupe.  Clinique claims that it ”removes excess oil and shine without disturbing makeup. Leaves a matte look to skin. Leaves skin feeling and looking comfortable and fresh.” For official info click HERE.

Well,  on the plus side:

  • it does leave a matte look to skin as claimed
  • barely visible if applied alone
  • for dry combination, oily and very oily skin
  • comes in 7 shades

But, on the minus side:

  • matte look doesn’t last long enough
  • it can (and most likely will) dry out your skin during winter
  • slightly visible if applied over make-up

WOULD I REPURCHASE? Not since I found a great dupe – on which some other time!

My top 5 beauty products

There is a handful of beauty staples I wouldn’t be caught naked without (on nudity some other time :P) :

1.) YSL touche eclat – a well-known HG product among beauty addicts, great for covering those nasty (or perhaps naughty?!) under-eye circles. Tip:  NEVER rub it, but tap it very lightly!

2.) CLINIQUE clarifying lotion – there are very mixed opinions on this one, people seem to either love it or hate it! I’ve been using number 2  for years now and would rather give up on chocolate than this little miracle! True, my skin probably is my best organ (no pun intended this time!), but this toner makes my skin flawless. I use it in the morning and evening, before moisturizing.  My skin used to get quite flaky, especially during winter, but since I’ve been using this that doesn’t happen at all.

3.) Nivea Q10 Firming Body Lotion – I’m yet to find a better moisturizing lotion than this one! Rich but not sticky, pleasant smell, does exactly what it says…for a decent price! Could go on for pages…

4.) Dior 5-colour Eyeshadow – the only eyeshadow that I came across so far (and there were quite a few, believe me!) that could be applied without a quality brush and still get a great blendability and colour pay-off, amazing. The one below is Pink Extase, 804. Might do some swatches soon!

5.) L’oreal Lash Architect Waterproof – The thing is,  I like my makeup glamorous, meaning I’d prefer Chanel or Dior over L’oreal. Yes, I am a makeup snob. But no matter which other mascara I occasionally stray to, I always come back home to this one! Unattractive blue packaging, true, but it does wonders to otherwise average lashes. Will post before/after pics so you can see for yourself.

What are your beauty HGs, ladies and gents? 😉
